FAQ's And Answers

What is Interport?  Interport is the brand name of equaTEK’s Content Management System and has been included in our product portfolio since 2003.

Interport provides nearly 30 modules that deliver a wide array of standard functionality to our client websites.  Our premium modules bring immediate and comprehensive functionality to a site that might otherwise take months of development time and significant budget dollars to create.

What is a “module?” A module is a software component that delivers a specific function or functionality.  Interport utilizes modules that we have acquired from third party software developers as well as modules that we have developed ourselves.

Why are some modules ‘standard” while others are “premium?” Module classification is based on demand and development cost.

Premium modules provide a substantial level of functionality and typically have a significant development cost.

equaTEK has assembled a set of modules that we include in Interport as Standard Modules that are more commonly utilized on websites today.  This standard set makes our base Interport package stronger than other competitive CMS solutions.

What is a Content Management System (CMS)? According to Wikipedia: A Content Management System(CMS) is a software system used for content management. Content management systems are deployed primarily for interactive use by a potentially large number of contributors. For example, the software for the website Wikipedia is based on a wiki, which is a particular type of content management system.

How does CMS web development differ from traditional HTML web development? With a Content Management System, the operational software code produces the HTML to achieve the objectives of the web developer.   With traditional HTML, the web developer must write the specific software code to accomplish each objective.

What is HTML?
According to Wikipedia: HTML, an initialism of Hypertext Markup Language, is the predominant markup language for web pages. It provides a means to describe the structure of text-based information in a document — by denoting certain text as headings, paragraphs, lists, and so on — and to supplement that text with interactive forms, embedded images, and other objects. HTML is written in the form of labels (known as tags), surrounded by angle brackets. HTML can also describe, to some degree, the appearance and semantics of a document, and can include embedded scripting language code which can affect the behavior of web browsers and other HTML processors.

Are all Content Management Systems the same?
NO!  Two tremendously distinct variations exist.

A Custom CMS provides the user with limited content management and defined functionality.  In many custom CMS solutions, page layout is fixed with limited areas that can be modified. Because every deployment is custom, costs are generally high and expandability limited, requiring custom software development for modifications.

The alternative, such as Interport, is a Modular design, providing the user with broad content management and functionality that is often readily available on engagement.  Many modular CMS solutions like Interport provide flexibility in page layout and module deployment. In addition to the functionality provided, a modular CMS can be extended through custom development.
