Why Doesn’t My New Site Show Up in Google Search?

I just had a great phone call from a client whose new website launched last week, but when he searches on Google, the site doesn't show up as a search result. The previous week, the site launched smoothly and then quickly showed up on computers when the URL was typed in. The new site included unique Meta Data on each page, included a Google Map and adequate content. On the phone, the company owner asked, "So why isn’t the new site showing up in a Google search when I put in my company name? It's been 6 days."
